Steven B. Sherer, 69

Steven Bruce Sherer, 69, of Coffeen, died at 5:09 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 15, 2022, at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.

The family will be receiving guests from 1-3 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 26, at the Event Center of Montgomery County in Taylor Springs.  A burial service will be scheduled in the spring of 2023. Bass Patton Dean Funeral Home in Hillsboro is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Sherer was born on Dec. 3, 1952, in Hillsboro to the late Robert Guy Sherer and Myra E. (Limper) Sherer. He was a 1971 graduate of Hillsboro High School, and married Janine Johnson in 1974 and they later divorced.

He was a U.S. Army veteran and was stationed at Ft. Leonard Wood in Missouri. He had worked at Asarco in Taylor Springs and Midwest Zink in Hillsboro until it closed. He was a member of the Local Labor Union, and he had lived in Taylor Springs, Hillsboro, and Coffeen during his lifetime.

Mr. Sherer is survived by two sons, Christopher (wife Melanie) Sherer of Hillsboro and Matthew Sherer of Coffeen; granddaughters, Hannah (husband Ryan) Piehl of Arnold, MO, Chloe Sherer of Hillsboro, and Mia Sherer of Hillsboro; brothers and sisters, Theresa (husband Graddie) Robinson of San Antonio, TX; Glenda (husband William) Summers of St. Louis, MO; Paula (husband Robert) Goad of Mexico, MO; Joseph (wife Ann) Sherer of Taylor Springs, IL; Michael (wife Gail) Sherer of Hillsboro, IL; William (wife Jeannie) Sherer of St. Pete, FL; and Thomas (wife Janice) Sherer of Hillsboro.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a  brother, John R. Sherer.
