Sara A. McCoy, 82


Sara A. McCoy, 82, of Highland, died Tuesday, Sept. 26, at daughter's home in Sorento.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Interment will be at Highland City Cemetery in Highland. Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland is assisting the family.

Mrs. McCoy was born on Saturday, July 12, 1941, in Odin, the daughter of Fredrick and Rosalie (nee Hall) Stein. On Sunday, Oct. 11, 1959, she married James Wesley McCoy in Salem, and he preceded her in death on Friday, Jan. 5, 2007.

Mrs. McCoy and graduated from Odin High School in 1959. During high school, she worked for a nursing home. She lived in Centralia; then briefly in Chicago,  then Springfield for six years; then moved to Highland in 1977 and has been there ever since. She worked at Drda Electric in Edwardsville for several years and then for Faith Countryside Homes in Highland for close to ten years. Her husband was an undercover agent for Illinois State Police.

She and her husband enjoyed traveling, and they visited every state in the United States except for Hawaii. She collected Asian dolls and ornamental plates. Her favorite hobby was fishing and she also enjoyed bowling. She was a member of Marine Sportsman’s Club.

The loves of her life were her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Mrs. McCoy is survived by her daughters, Stacie D. (Richard, Sr.) Applegate of  Sorento and Kellie E. (significant other Brian Kelly) McCoy of  Fenton, MO; grandchildren,  Lauren A. (Darrick) Hays of  Edwardsville, Colt J. (Ashley) Witschie of  Millstadt, Vivian T. Min of  Fenton, MO; stepgrandchildren Richard (Ericka) Applegate  Jr. of Oklahoma, Amber (Derek) Tinarwo of  Caseyville and Ashley Baldwin of  Greenville; great-grandchildren, Christopher J. Witschie of  Millstadt, Bennett D. Hays of  Edwardsville and Mara D. Hays of  Edwardsville; stepgreat-grandchildren Ethan, Kylie, Aubrey, Ian and Ilyse; and brothers, Robert Stein of  Edinburg and William (Linda) Stein of  Carlyle.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her father Fredrick Stein, mother Rosalie Hazel Stein nee Hall and brother Dale Stein.
