Larry Wayne Hughes, 74, of Litchfield, died on Monday, March 6, 2023, at 2:19 p.m. at HSHS St. Francis Hospital in Litchfield.

Visitation will be held Sunday, March 12, from 12 to 2 p.m. at Plummer Funeral Home in Litchfield. Funeral services will follow, beginning at 2 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Fred Kraemer officiating.

Mr. Hughes was born Oct. 13, 1948, in Blytheville, AR, to Henry Herman and Ima Jo (Colbert) Hughes. He married Theresa “Terry” Sue Hibbeler on May 16, 1970, in Staunton, and she survives.

He graduated from Round Lake High School and went on to obtain his degree from Blackburn College in Carlinville. He also served in the U.S. Navy. Before his retirement, Mr. Hughes was employed as a chemist with Ameren at the Coffeen Power Plant.

He attended Zion Lutheran Church in Litchfield with his grandchildren, enjoyed sports and loved spending time with his family and traveling with his wife. He participated in car shows with his 1966 Ford Mustang. He was an avid Cubs and White Sox fan.

In addition to his wife, Mrs. Hughes is survived by his son, Bruce (Lana) Hughes of Litchfield; daughter, Jennifer (Brad) Ryden of Loami; sisters, Reba Verhunce and Donna (William) Clifford, both of Wisconsin; and four grandchildren, Kaytlen Hughes, Collin Hughes, Luke Ryden and Alexis Ryden.

He was preceded in death by his grandson, Spencer Wayne Hughes on Dec. 7, 2022.
