Judith A. Unsell, 83

Judith Anne (Vernetti) Unsell, 83, formerly of Nokomis, died on Sunday, April 2, 2023, in Roseville, CA.

Memorial services were held at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Rocklin, CA, on Friday, May 19. A reception followed in the church’s social hall.

Mrs. Unsell was born in Nokomis to Lawrence and Vera Vernetti.  She had one sister, Irene, who was four years her senior.   Mrs. Unsell grew up in Nokomis and graduated from Nokomis High School in 1957.  After high school, she attended one year of college before landing a job for the State of Illinois in Springfield.  There, she met and married George Newberry. They had two daughters, Kathleen and Victoria.

The Unsell family relocated to Fontana, CA, in 1968. Mrs. Unsell was hired by Kaiser Hospital in Fontana and she worked there for over 24 years.  She faithfully attended St. Joseph Catholic Church.

In 1973, she became a single mother and raised her girls on her own.  She was a dedicated mother and always made holidays special. Mrs. Unsell had many friends and everyone who knew her loved her. In 1993, she married Tom Unsell, Sr., and moved to Rocklin, CA, to begin her new life.  They were married for 30 years before her passing and enjoyed many adventures together in their fifth wheel, traveling across the country. Mrs. Unsell also enjoyed crocheting, baking, crafts and making her home and yard beautiful.  She was a faithful volunteer at local Kaiser Hospitals for 22 years and was active at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Rocklin.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughters, Kathleen and Victoria; sons-in-law, Tommy and Virgil; grandchildren, Bobby, Vince, Nicole and Marcy; great-grandchildren, Kaleb, Joshua, Jacob, Ezra and Judah; and sister, Irene (Vernetti) Johnson, of Nokomis.
