Gene A. Peters, 87, of Taylorville, died on Sunday, Jan. 8, 2023, at 2:05 a.m. at Taylorville Care Center.
Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, Jan. 11, at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville with Pastor Gerald McPhillips officiating. Burial followed at Oak Hill Cemetery in Taylorville.
Mr. Peters was born Sept. 2, 1935, in Taylorville, to Lee Clinton and Faye Arminta (Hardin) Peters. He married Donna Harmon on March 15, 1958, in Taylorville, and she survives.
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Taylorville and the Taylorville VFW Post #4495.
Mr. Peters retired from Caterpillar in Decatur where he worked for 40 years as a pipefitter. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, serving in Korea immediately following the conflict.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Matthew Peters of Taylorville; grandchildren, Austin (Miranda) Peters, Evan Peters and Ryan (Delanie) Peters, all of Taylorville; great-grandchildren, Colbie, Allison and Collins Peters, all of Taylorville; sister, Sonja Heldebrandt of Nokomis; and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Peters was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Darrell, Roy and Jerry Peters; sisters, Phoebe Schwemin and Hope Peters; and great-granddaughter, Kinsley Peters.
