Barbara Jane Compton, 75, of Litchfield, died on Friday evening, Jan. 13, 2023, at HSHS St. Francis Hospital in Litchfield.
No services are planned. Litchfield Family Funeral Service is assisting the family.
Mrs. Compton was born Oct. 16, 1947, in Litchfield, to Roy and Vivian (Whitworth) Hendrickson. She married David M. Compton on Oct. 16, 1964, in Donnellson, and he survives.
She and her husband made a promise to her parents that she would complete high school. She stayed in school and graduated from Litchfield High School with the class of 1965.
Mrs. Compton was a homemaker, raising their children. After the kids were older, she became an associate at Walmart.
She enjoyed playing and watching their grandchildren as they grew.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Compton is survived by her five sons, Brian (Tammy) Compton, Jeff (girlfriend Lori) Compton and Craig (fiancee Amanda) Compton, all of Litchfield, Brad Compton of Cedar Rapids, IA, and Denny (Pam) Compton of Carlinville; daughter, Debbie (Jeff) Kornmann of Litchfield; 15 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Beverly (Jerry) Hudson of Las Vegas, NV, and Pat (Tony) Morrison of Huntsville, OH; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Tom and Roy Hendrickson; and a sister in infancy, Sue Hendrickson.
