Thomas Lloyd Saathoff, 69, of Litchfield, died on Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2024 at 1:17 a.m. at HSHS St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.
A celebration of Mr. Saathoff’s life will be held Saturday, Sept. 21, at 11 a.m. at the Christian Church of Litchfield. The Rev. Tim Barbee will officiate. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until the time of the service, also at the church. A private committal of Mr. Saathoff’s ashes will be held following the service at Edgewood Cemetery in Litchfield.
Mr. Saathoff was born on Nov. 20, 1954, in Litchfield, a son of Lloyd Thomas and Rachel Louise (Eliason) Saathoff. He was raised on the family farm in rural Walshville, and graduated from Mt. Olive High School with the class of 1972.
Mr. Saathoff married the former Karen Ann Sharp on Sept. 15, 2001, at the First Baptist Church in Litchfield, and she survives.
Mr. Saathoff farmed with his parents and also worked at Shell Oil Refinery in South Roxana for several years. He was a member of the Christian Church of Litchfield. He loved building and restoring motorcycles and vintage Willys Jeeps. He was an avid reader of many subjects, mainly military history. He enjoyed going to Jeep meets and shows, traveling to national parks and battlefields, and going to tractor shows.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Saathoff is survived by two sons, Kyle (Amber) Kalaher of Carlinville and Chad (Amber) Kalaher of Hillsboro and daughter, Michelle Saathoff of Litchfield; three grandchildren Kassidie (fiancé, Emma Gansz) Hatlen, Alexsis Kalaher and Garrett Kalaher; father and mother-in-law, Bill and Dorothy Sharp of Litchfield; sister-in-law, Donna Perkins and brother-in-law, Bob Sharp, both of Litchfield; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his infant brother Gary L. Saathoff, brother Craig L. Saathoff and sister Annette L. May.
