Robert Riemenschneider, 85

Robert Carl Riemenschneider, Sr., 85, a lifelong resident of Litchfield, died on Saturday morning, July 6, 2024, at his home in Litchfield.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 10, from 9 to 11 a.m. at Holy Family Parish in Litchfield. Funeral services will be held immediately afterward at 11 a.m. with The Rev. Dan Willenborg officiating. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery in Litchfield. Litchfield Family Funeral Service of Litchfield is assisting the family.

Mr. Riemenschneider was born Feb. 8, 1939, in Litchfield, to Edward John and Irma (Hinz) Riemenschneider. He married the former Carol Lehnert on May 27, 1961, and they were married for 63 wonderful years.

Mr. Riemenschneider attended Litchfield schools and was a member of St. Aloysius, St. Mary's and Holy Family Parish. A veteran of the United States military, he served his country with the Army.

A hard worker for his entire life, he helped his brothers haul milk from local farmers, he worked at Brown Shoe Company until their closure in 1976, he helped his father-in-law at the local standard gas station, he maintained the facilities at St. Mary's church and school and he retired after more than 35 years of service as a custodian and bus driver for the Litchfield School District.

Mr. Riemenschneider loved anything John Deere, and he loved collecting old John Deere tractors. He enjoyed mowing grass, playing on his computer and doing crossword puzzles. He had fun playing casino games and was both a Cubs and Cardinals fan.

In addition to his wife, Carol Riemenschneider of Litchfield, Mr. Riemenschneider is survived by a twin brother Ray (Judy) Riemenschneider of Litchfield; two daughters and two sons; Becky (Gary) Gudgel of Litchfield, Cindy (Tony) Bergman of Litchfield, Bobby (Karen) Riemenschneider of Chatham and Bradley (companion Teresa Trotter) Riemenschneider of Litchfield;  seven grandchildren, Cody (Jennifer) Gudgel of Litchfield, Dylan (Megan) Gudgel of Litchfield, Tanner (Molly) Bergman of Litchfield, Brooke (Jacob) Bryant of Indianapolis, IN, Taylor (Andrew) Jones of Litchfield, Breanna (fiance Trey McCormick) Riemenschneider of St. Joseph and Bryce Riemenschneider of Edwardsville; seven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters Verlaine Mehlberg and Irma Jean Clesson; and a brother, Harold Riemenschneider.
