Randall Barry Huber, 81, of Sun City Center, FL and Hillsboro, died on Saturday, May 4, 2024, after a brief illness and stay at the Lifepath Hospice House in Sun City Center, FL.
A private family celebration of life will be held at a later time.
Mr. Huber was born on Feb. 13, 1943, in Hillsboro, to the late Bernard Huber and Geraldine Crites Huber. In 1966, he married Jo Ellen Bricker and the two had a son, Scott. In 1974, he married Carol Myerscough, his wife of 50 years, and was blessed with stepdaughters Vicki and Jacqueline.
He was a graduate of Hillsboro High School and Southern Illinois University. He served in the Air National Guard and was employed by the federal government, retiring after 34 years working for Farmer’s Home Administration. He was also an entrepreneur and successful business owner who operated a real estate office with his wife, Carol, and built and opened a storage unit business until this past year.
In his younger years, Mr. Huber enjoyed boating, farming, going to auctions, attending local high school sporting events and playing a lot of golf. He surrounded himself with a large group of friends including his morning coffee buddies at Hardee’s, his golf partners, his Florida neighbors and his long-standing best friend, Jim Reynolds. He was an excellent card-player, mastering the difficult game of bridge and playing in several different clubs right up to the time of his death. Those who played games with him knew he was competitive with a dry sense of humor and he would give his characteristic smirk and grin when he would win.
He was a member of several Catholic churches in the communities he lived and he loved spending time with his family. He always made a point to be at family Christmases and many other celebrations with his parents, brothers and sisters. He also enjoyed the years when his kids were young and the family would take road trips, including several visits to Disney World.
Mr. Huber is survived by his wife; son, Scott (Bonnie) Huber of State College, PA; stepdaughters, Vicki Scott of Hawthorne, FL and Jacqueline (Michael) Leland of Indianapolis, IN; grandchildren, Logan Huber, Katelyn Weck, Harison Weck, Jordan (Jason) Clapp, Tori (Ethan) Blankenship and Justin Leland; great-grandchildren Kash Weck, Rikki Lee Weck, Bennett Clapp, Lincoln Clapp and Liam Blankenship; brothers, Nash Huber, Gary Huber, Kim Huber and Brian Huber; sisters, Diane Catlin and Karen Huber; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
In lieu of memorial gifts, the family asks that you take a moment to do something kind for someone in need.
