Melvin L. Davis, 80 of Litchfield, died on Wednesday morning, July 10, 2024, at Staunton Memorial Hospital in Staunton. 

Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 14, from 2 to 4 p.m. at Litchfield Family Funeral Service, located at 700 South Street in Litchfield. Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Monday, July 15, at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Elm Lawn Cemetery in Litchfield.

Mr. Davis was born Oct. 5, 1943, in Divernon, a son of Walter and Opal  Bandy Davis. He married Merry Vath on June 18, 1966 at the Litchfield Assembly of God Church and they shared 58 years together.

Mr. Davis graduated from Litchfield High School with the class of 1961. 

As a young boy, he taught himself to play the guitar. He loved country music and playing his guitar. For many years, he played in bands in the area.

He even passed his love of music onto his three sons and enjoyed playing music with them and when his wife would sing. The couple loved to travel around to festivals, the state fair, site seeing and shopping.

Mr. Davis shared his love of astronomy with family and, especially, his grandchildren. He enjoyed playing games, cards and drinking coffee with family, laughing and carrying on late into the night.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Davis was preceded in death by his sisters, Blanche Denby, Maxine Duff and Phyllis Trunk and brothers, John Ray Davis, Larry Davis and Don Davis.

He is survived by his wife, Merry; sons, Todd A. (Debra) Davis of Litchfield, Brian L. (Kayla) Davis of Litchfield  and Mark S. (Heather) Davis of Staunton; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a sister, Dorothy (Bill) Sharp of Litchfield and several nieces and nephews.
