Margaret ‘Shorty’ Chesser, 84

Margaret “Shorty” (Jagodzinski) Chesser, 84, of Hillsboro, died on May 13, 2024.
Visitation will be held on Friday, May 17, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Hough and Sons Funeral Home in Hillsboro. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 18, beginning at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Father Dan Willenborg officiating. Burial will be in St. Agnes Cemetery in Hillsboro.
Mrs. Chesser was born on Oct. 20, 1939, in Hillsboro, to Joseph and Catherine (Phillips) Jagodzinski. She graduated from Hillsboro High School with the class of 1957 and went to secretarial school in Springfield. She married Phillip E. Chesser on Oct. 12, 1957, and he preceded her in death on Nov. 5, 2015.
A secretary at many local banks, Mrs. Chesser attended St. Agnes Catholic Church in Hillsboro and was a part of the Calico Twirlers with Kiwanis, as she loved to square dance.
Mrs. Chesser is survived by two daughters, Victoria (Mike) Greenwood of Coffeen and Patricia (Rex) Hughes-Pace of Tennessee; grandchildren, Brandon (companion Tessa Lane) Greenwood of Coffeen, Adam (Tami) White of Greenfield, April (Chris) Dowland of Greenfield, Connor Hughes of Tennessee, Ricky (Caitlyn) Hughes of Springfield and Allen Pace of Tennessee; great-grandchildren, Paige White, Dom White and Zak White, all of Greenfield, Jesse Dowland, Jayden Downland and Jaime Dowland, all of Greenfield, Joie Hughes of Springfield and Hadley Mount of Coffeen; and one nephew, Kevin Jagodzinksi.
In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Rick Hughes; a granddaughter, Makenzie Hughes; and her brother, Leo Jagodzinski.
