Kenneth Schlomann, 92, formerly of Litchfield and Mt. Olive, died on Wednesday, Oct. 19, 2022, at his home in Campbell, CA. His wife,Virginia (Ginny) Schlomann, 91, died on Wednesday, Oct. 18, 2023, at Good Samaritan Hospital in San Jose, CA.
A joint memorial service for Mr. and Mrs. Schlomann will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 20, at Beacon Church, located at 622 N. Franklin in Litchfield, followed by burial at Elmwood Cemetery. Pastor Jon Magnuson will be officiating.
Mr. Schlomann was born Feb. 18, 1930, in Mt. Olive, to Clarence and Margaret Schlomann.
Mr. Schlomann graduated from Carlinville High School and continued his education at the University of Illinois, receiving a bachelor’s degree in history. Mr. Schlomann worked at a water park demonstrating barefoot water-skiing. He enlisted in the Army during the Korean War. He became a demolition specialist with top secret clearance. Mr. Schlomann became the single representative for the Army, briefing President Eisenhower as part of a delegation on the effect of wartime on children and youth.
Later in life, Mr. Schlomann cofounded with his cousin one of the first commercial finance companies nationwide with offices in Detroit, MI, St. Louis, MO, and Palo Alto, CA.
Mrs. Schlomann was born Nov. 15, 1931, in Litchfield, to Spires and Catherine (Kitty) Sinclair. She graduated from Carlinville High School and continued her education, graduating from the University of Illinois with a bachelor’s degree in physical education. Mrs. Schlomann was the team captain for the university’s synchronized swimming team. She taught P.E. at Lake Forest High School and then Wake Forest University. She was an active member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and a patron of the San Jose Women’s Shelter.
Mr. and Mrs. Schlomann were wed on April 30, 1961, in Litchfield at her parent’s residence. In their years together, they lived in Illinois, Ohio, Missouri and Canada before settling in California.
In their early years, they traveled the Midwest as avid skiers. In later years, after settling in California, they had a passion for golf and traveled California as members of the Saratoga Country Club.
They are survived by their daughter, Catherine (Doug) Robertson of California; son, Michael(Holly) Schlomann of Texas; grandchildren, Gray and Davis Robertson and Emma and Cole Schlomann; and nieces, nephews and cousins in the Litchfield area.
Mr. Schlomann was preceded in death by one brother, Gray Schlomann, who was killed in action in Korea. Mrs. Schlomann was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, John Sinclair, James Sinclair, Charles Sinclair; and sister, Mary Catherine Schmitt.
