Carole M. Krummel, 85, died on May 4, 2024, in McCordsville, IN.
Graveside service will be held on Saturday, May 25, at 2 p.m., with burial beside her husband in Donnellson Cemetery in Donnellson. Bass-Patton-Dean Funeral Home is assisting the family.
Mrs. Krummel was born Carole Jean Middleton on May 2, 1939, in Savannah, GA, and was the older of two daughters of Raymond and Hazel (Williams) Middleton. The family moved to Atlanta in 1953 where Carole graduated from Druid Hills High School then attended Georgia State College. While at Georgia State, she was an active member of the Alpha Omicron Pi Sorority. She married Navy Ensign John C. Krummel in 1959 and moved with their two sons to Alaska and seven other states over the course of his Naval career.
After twenty years in the service, CDR Krummel retired, and following time in Portsmouth, OH, the family settled in Oak Ridge, TN, in 1983. CDR Krummel passed away on Sept. 19, 2007, in Oliver Springs, TN. Mrs. Krummel moved to Fishers, IN, in August of 2017. 
Mrs. Krummel returned to college later in life and graduated with a bachelor of arts summa cum laude in English from the University of Tennessee-Knoxville in 1996, and as a member of the Phi Beta Kappa honor society.  She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Oak Ridge, as well as a member of the Laurel Chapter #22, Order of the Eastern Star, in Harriman, TN and of the Clinch Bend Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, in Oak Ridge, TN. While in Oak Ridge, she enjoyed volunteer work for many years at Holiday Bureau, an organization that provides toys and clothing at Christmas for families in need, as well as working with the Friends of the Oak Ridge Public Library. Mrs. Krummel was an avid reader and classical music listener and enjoyed researching family history.  
She is survived by sons, John Andrew (Kim) Krummel of McCordsville, IN and Dr. Christopher Lee Krummel of Youngstown, OH; grandchildren Colin (Casey) Krummel; Kylie Krummel (Cullen) Byers and Corey (fiancée Kathleen Crispen) Siebert; sister, Mrs. Betty M. Moore and husband Mel; niece Megan M. (Alex) Kupratty and children Gabe and Zoe; nephew Thomas (Katie) Moore and his son, Elliott; and several very special nieces and nephews on her husband’s side.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Shriners’ Hospital for Children in Lexington, KY, or to cancer research or children’s literacy organizations.
