Anthony Gerard Gutierrez, 70, of Venice, FL, formerly of Springfield, died Sunday, July 21, 2024, at his home with his wife by his side.
Funeral arrangements will be private.
Mr. Gutierrez was born on Dec. 9, 1953, in Springfield, to Pedro and Stephina Gutierrez. He married Nancy Hahnenkamp-Gutierrez of Litchfield on Oct. 12, 1996, and she survives.
Mr. Gutierrez is survived by his wife, Nancy, two sons, four grandchildren,and his puppy dog PiperJo, siblings, Vicky and Stephanie Gutierrez, Barbara Schlebach, Susan, Steve and Joseph Gutierrez, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Chris and Paul John, and his puppy, Paco.
Mr. Gutierrez graduated from Springfield High School and continued on to receive his bachelor’s degree. He started his career at the Rock Island Police Department where in 1977 he became an undercover agent with the nickname “The Mexican.” He was accepted into the Illinois State Police Academy and retired on Dec. 31, 2007, as master sergeant #3220, with his call number being 9-12.
Mr. Gutierrez had several news articles written about his success, and received medals and awards. His dedication to his work was phenomenal. He loved to travel and loved spending time on the ocean. He was an avid scuba diver. Mr. Gutierrez was the best husband,and made people feel special.
