Mary Patricia “Maripat” (Wehman) Speier, 82, of Nokomis, died on Monday, Oct. 27, 2025.
Mrs. Speier was born in Chicago, on May 14, 1943, to William and Bernice Wehman. She was their first daughter and second of four children (Thomas, Mary, James and Paula.) Growing up, she loved to go fishing with her father and sew with her mother.
Mrs. Speier attended grammar school at St. Felicity’s School and graduated in 1957 and attended St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Chicago, graduating in 1961. She continued to be a lifelong learner, attending evening and weekend courses at local community colleges throughout her life. Mrs. Speier loved all things crafty, from gardening to birdwatching to sewing. She was an active community member in Nokomis and enjoyed her Bible study group.
Mrs. Speier was preceded in death by her husband, William (Bill) Speier and her brother, James Wehman (Andrea).
Mrs. Speier is survived by her children, Nicholas DeFrisco, Christopher DeFrisco (Pam), Daniel Speier (Beth) and Jennie LeiVan (John); her stepchildren, William Speier (Lynna) and Samantha Speier; her brother, Thomas (late Mary) Wehman; her sister, Paula Johnson (Greg); her grandchildren, John, Owen, Katherine and Elizabeth; and many nieces and nephews.
