Jacolyn “Jackie” R. Hermes, 92, of New Berlin, died on Monday, Oct. 6, 2025, at Springfield Suites Rehab and Nursing.
Mass of Christian Burial was held on Friday, Oct. 10, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, located at 404 E. Birch St. in New Berlin, with the Rev. Adam Zawadzki officiating. Burial followed at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.
Mrs. Hermes was born on March 27, 1933, in Alabama, the daughter of William and Ruth (Dieckman) Phillips. She married Richard “Dick” Hermes on Jan. 14, 1956, in Jacksonville. He preceded her in death on June 13, 2003.
Mrs. Hermes earned an associate’s degree and worked as a licensed practical nurse after raising her family. She was a faithful member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Mrs. Hermes was an accomplished seamstress who loved making quilts and dabbled in knitting and crocheting. She also enjoyed tending to her flowers.
Mrs. Hermes is survived by her daughter, Michelle (Paul) Osborne of Litchfield; sons, Patrick Hermes of New Berlin and John (Allinson) Hermes of Alexander; grandchildren, Steven, Caleb, Luke, Timothy, Samuel, Matthew, Ashlyn, Faith and Tyler; 13 great-grandchildren; and siblings, Jon R. Phillips of Jacksonville, Patsy (Donald) Covey of Evansville, Margaret (Donald) Mathews of Roodhouse, Dixie (Keith) Pennell and Thomas C. (Dianna) Phillips, both of Murrayville.
In addition to her husband, she was also preceded in death by her parents; son, Richard “Rick” Hermes; and brother, Bill Phillips.
