Helen Louise Poteet, 97, of Nokomis, died surrounded by her family on Jan. 26, 2026, at her daughter’s home in Florida.
Visitation will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 9, at St. Louis Catholic Church in Nokomis. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m., with Father Michael Meinhart officiating. Burial will take place in Nokomis Cemetery. Stiehl-Dawson Funeral Home in Nokomis is assisting the family with arrangements.
Mrs. Poteet was born on Dec. 22, 1928, in Coalton, to Marko and Emma (Dwarsack) Adams. For most of her life, she was a homemaker, but later worked as a cafeteria cook for Nokomis High School. She married Dewey Poteet Jr., and he preceded her in death on March 31, 2009. She was a member of St. Louis Catholic Church. She was an avid quilter and also a member of the quilting club at St. Louis Catholic Church.
She is survived by her children, Cheryl (Terry) Milt of Mt. Vernon, Carol (Dave) Schall of Naples, FL and Mark (Christi) of Lebanon; ten grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and faithful companion, Lucy.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dewey Poteet Jr.; brothers, Ozzy and Hap Pretnar; and one grandchild.
