Harold E. Long, 81

Harold Everett Long, 81, of Hillsboro, died Sunday, Oct. 29, 2023, at 7:15 p.m. at Montgomery Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Taylor Springs.

Funeral services for Mr. Long will be held at Plummer Funeral Home on Thursday, Nov. 2, at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Ralph F. Ward of Hillsboro officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the time of service.

Mr. Long was born in Walshville on Feb. 25, 1942, as a son of John and Lola (Vollintine) Long. He attended school in Greenville and graduated in the class of 1959. He married Kathryn Rosalie (Miller) Long on May 26, 1962, at the Pleasant Hill Christian Church in Raymond.

He was a heavy equipment operator for the Montgomery County Highway Department for 32 years.  Mr. Long was a member of the Union Avenue Christian Church in Litchfield. He was also a member of the Laborers Local #1084 – Hillsboro, Moose Lodge 1684, Senior Achievers, and the Montgomery County Farm Bureau. When he wasn’t working, he loved to travel and had been to 49 of 50 states. Mr. Long also enjoyed putting in a nice garden and tending to his cattle.

Mr. Long is survived by his wife, Kathryn, of Hillsboro; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Long was preceded in death by his siblings, two brothers, Art Long and Wayne Long, and two sisters, Vera Tinnin, and Doris Contratto.
