Gerry Johnston, 96, died at 12:57 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 27, 2025, at Litchfield Health and Rehab in Litchfield.
Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 3 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 9, at Plummer Funeral Home in Litchfield.
Mrs. Johnston was born May 4, 1929, in Litchfield, the daughter of Byron Brooks and Verna Lillian (Besanceney) Bowles. She graduated from Litchfield High School in 1947.
She married Carl Eugene Johnston on June 6, 1948, in Litchfield. He preceded her in death on Aug. 27, 1984.
Mrs. Johnston had worked for First National Bank, Madison Park School and First Baptist Church in Litchfield. She was an active member of New Hope Baptist Church in Barnett. She had been a member of Phi Sigma Nu Sorority, St. Francis Hospital Auxiliary, and Keenagers and served on the Litchfield Carnegie Library Board as well as many other committees.
Mrs. Johnston was a longtime leader of GAs and had taught Sunday School for many years at the First Baptist Church. She loved to travel and visited several countries. She loved to entertain and often hosted game nights and supper at her home with her friends.
Mrs. Johnston is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Pam and Ron Norris of Litchfield; a son and daughter-in-law, Tim and Kim Johnston of Wisconsin; five grandchildren, Trisha Hoagland (John) of Waterloo, Cameron Norris (Jillian) of Austin, TX, and Corey, Courtney and Christian Johnston; six great-grandchildren, Ava and Easton Hoagland and Jace, Brice, Emma, and Rowan Norris; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Along with her parents and husband, Mrs. Johnston was preceded in death by a son, Scott Johnston; her in-laws, Oscar and Margaret Bockewitz; and two brothers- and sisters-in-law, Derald and Bertie Bowles and Lester and Joanne Bowles.
