Eleanor Mae Unger, 81, of Springfield, formerly of Hillsboro, died Sunday, Oct. 12, 2025.
Memorial services will be scheduled at a later date. Inurnment will be at Oak Grove Cemetery in Hillsboro.
Ms. Unger was born on May 11, 1944, in Chicago, a daughter of Frank M. and Georgia M. Cozzello. She graduated from Hillsboro High School with the class of 1962 and then St. Joseph’s School of Nursing in St. Louis.
She married Paul L. Unger in 1964; they later divorced. In her career, Ms. Unger was employed as an executive secretary for the State of Illinois.
Ms. Unger is survived by her son, Douglas (Donell) Unger and daughter, Jennifer Hathaway, of Quincy; sister, Mary Cozzello of Springfield; three grandchildren, Alexis (Nathan) Dahlhauser, Paul Hathaway and Ben Hathaway; and two great-grandchildren, Alexander and Aria Dahlhauser.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Ben Cozzello.
