Dorles “Dottie” Jean Paden, 88, of Hillsboro, died on Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2024, at 9:06 p.m. at Montgomery Nursing and Rehab in Taylor Springs.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, Aug. 29, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Hillsboro. Funeral services will be held on Friday, Aug. 30, at 10 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Hillsboro, with the Rev. Matt Ferguson, pastor of First Presbyterian Church in Hillsboro, officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery in Hillsboro.
Mrs. Paden was born on Oct. 16, 1935, in Waggoner, to the late Charles and Delma (Hunter) Mullen. She married Glenn Paden on July 28, 1956, in Waggoner, and he preceded her in death on Sept. 20, 2016. She lived in Waggoner, Girard and Hillsboro throughout her life. She was a graduate of Girard High School and received a bachelors degree in education from Millikin University and a masters degree in education from Southern Illinois University in Edwardsville.
She spent her career as a school teacher, teaching for a short time in Waggoner, later working at Burbank Elementary from 1968 to 1980. She then taught at Beckemeyer Elementary School from 1980 until her retirement in 1994.
Mrs. Paden was a member of Eastern Star, First Presbyterian Church and Montgomery County Home Economic Advisor. She played piano and organ for First Presbyterian Church for 45 years and loved to play bridge. She also loved her dogs and spending time with family and grandkids. She was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan.
She is survived by her children, Bret (Shirley) Paden of Collinsville and Jill Paden of Hillsboro; grandchildren, Rachel (Scott) Mans of Maryville and Monica (companion, Alex) Paden of Napa Valley, CA; great-grandchildren, Camden, Gracie, Brooklyn, Devin and Autumn Mans; and a sibling, Robert Mullen of Geneseo, NY.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Paden was preceded in death by three brothers.
Memorials may be left to First Presbyterian Church in Hillsboro or Harvest of Hope food pantry.
