Darrell Turcol, 74, of Hillsboro, died at his residence on Saturday, Aug. 29, 2026.
In accordance with his wishes, the family has chosen cremation. No services are planned at this time.
Mr. Turcol was a devoted family man, esteemed community servant and proud veteran, who lived a life marked by dedication, love and a deep sense of duty. Born on April 10, 1951, in Litchfield, he came into the world the beloved son to Ray and Laura Turcol. He was raised alongside his siblings, Debra and Leslie, with whom he shared many cherished memories.
His life was deeply rooted in service, beginning with his time in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. Aboard the USS Basilone, a Gearing-class destroyer, Mr. Turcol and his crew bravely navigated the challenging waters of the Vietnamese coast. Their heroic efforts earned them three battle stars, a testament to their courage and dedication.
After his honorable military service, he returned to Hillsboro, where his commitment to protecting and serving others naturally extended into his career as a police officer. Over the course of 43 years as an officer, he spent 29 of these years as a respected figure in the Hillsboro Police Department. He was known for his fairness, integrity and unwavering dedication to his community.
Mr. Turcol’s personal life was enriched by the love and partnership of his wife, Crystal Davis, whom he married on June 27, 1981. Together, they built a beautiful family, raising two daughters, Jamie (Rob) Campbell and Melissa Flack, who were the pride of his life. As a father, he was a steadfast presence, offering unconditional love and support to his daughters.
His life was one of dedication to his country, his community and his family. His resilient spirit and gentle wisdom left an indelible mark on all who knew him. Known affectionately as PawPaw, he shared his love for the outdoors with his family, passing down his skills as an avid outdoorsman, gunsmith and marksman.
Mr. Turcol’s legacy continues through his grandchildren, Brett (Sarah) Campbell, Brendon (Jenna) Flack, Brittany, Laurel (Indy) Campbell, Kylee (Atreau) Damm and Cadence (Garrick) Flack; and his great-grandchildren, Myla, Kinlee, Grayson, Kaisen, and Zayn.
Though Mr. Turcol is predeceased by his wife, Crystal; parents, Ray and Laura; sister, Debra; and brother, Leslie, his legacy endures through the lives he touched and the memories he created. He will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him, a beacon of strength, love and selflessness.
