Judith Yvonne “Vonnie” Bryant Martin, age 89, formerly of Raymond, died on Friday, May 8, 2026, in Auburn.
Funeral services will be on Monday, May 18, at 11 a.m. at the Raymond Community of Faith Church in Raymond, with Pastor Lorna Blackford officiating. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Interment will be at Asbury Cemetery in Raymond.
Mrs. Martin was born on Oct. 14, 1936, in Berry, the daughter of Jewell Jess “JJ” and Mabel Elnora (Wayne) Bryant. She married Glenn Boehler and they later divorced. On April 22, 1977, she married Joseph Maurice “Joe” Martin. He preceded her in death Jan. 7, 2023.
For 42 years, Mrs. Martin was the face of the Village Hall in Raymond, serving as the village clerk starting in 1975 until her retirement in 2017. Her dedication to the village and its citizens made an impact on countless lives over her years in office.
Throughout the years in service to the town, Mrs. Martin served on numerous committees. She was a member of the Raymond-Harvel Ambulance Squad, the Raymond-Harvel Kiwanis Club and the Raymond 4th of July Association.
In 1998, Mrs. Martin was a charter member of the newly formed Panhandle Area Business and Professional Women’s Club. In 2000, she received the Woman of the Year award from the Panhandle Area BPW for all she had done for the community. In 1998, Mr. and Mrs. Martin became the sole owners of Raymond Ford, Inc. and later they sold it to Victory Lane Ford.
For many years, Mrs. Martin took her vacation in Springfield by entering the Illinois State Fair Cow Milking Contest. She sure showed them her hidden rural talents. She was also known for having chocolate chip cookies on hand for her neighborhood’s children. She also enjoyed sewing, especially for her children and grandchildren and gardening.
Mrs. Martin is survived by her children, Gerry (Sue) Boehler, Cara (Frank) Hill, Jody (Jayne) Boehler, Judy (Dave) Rikas and Sam (Lori) Boehler; 21 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Rena “Tinker” Boehler; and a grandson, Shawn Kent.
