Vesta (Lockerby) Ellis, 86, of Hillsboro, died on Tuesday, Sept. 13, 2022, at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center in Bloomington.
Visitation will be held Friday, Sept. 16, from 10 to 11 a.m. at Hough and Sons Funeral Home in Hillsboro. A memorial service will follow, beginning at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Larry Mulch officiating.
Mrs. Ellis was born Jan. 20, 1936, in Carbondale, to Thomas and Estaleda Lockerby. She married Charles “Chuck” Ellis on Dec. 26, 1959, and he preceded her in death on Feb. 1, 2012.
She worked at the Hillsboro school cafeteria and Hillsboro Public Library. She was a 4-H leader who loved flowers, to read, sew and crochet.
Mrs. Ellis is survived by her children, Lisa (Donald) Mulch, Ronda (Kevin) Codemo, Vickie (Dennis) DeWerff, all of Normal, Scott (Janelle) Ellis of Springfield, David Ellis of Hillsboro and Kimberly (Treg) Caruthers of Waverly; grandchildren, Ellen Rinehimer, Erin Pioletti, Samantha DeWerff, Jessica DeWerff, Austin Ellis, Christopher Ellis and Alexandria Caruthers; six great-grandchildren; and one sister, Reba Luke of Chelmsford, MA.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents.
