Cheryl Kay McClelland, 80, of Virden and formerly of Harvel, died peacefully on Saturday, July 25, 2026, at Sunrise Skilled Nursing and Rehab in Virden.

A graveside service was held on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, at Harvel Cemetery in Harvel, with Pastor Mark Noyes officiating.

Mrs. McClelland was the only child of Clarence and Mary Katheren Frarer, born on January 20, 1946, in Hillsboro. She graduated from Hillsboro High School, and married John R. McClelland, on November 26, 1966, in Hillsboro; he preceded her in death.

She was employed by the Breeze-Courrier Newspaper in Taylorville for more than 20 years. After her retirement, she enjoyed taking road trips, shopping at stores or when watching tv—preferably QVC, playing slot machines and playing the lottery. She dearly loved her dog Cisco, and she was the only human that her cat Tinker could appreciate.

Mrs. McClelland is survived by her daughter, Meri Beth (Dave) Weller, of Farmersville; four grandchildren, Kierstyn (significant other Thomas) Johnson of Decatur, Ashlynn (significant other Michael) Pickrel of Taylorville, Blade Weller of Farmersville and Emme Weller of Auburn; six great-grandchildren; and the dear family she found while living at Sunrise.

Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation, 2309 West White Oaks Drive, Suite E, Springfield, IL 62704, or to the Animal Protective League, 1001 Taintor Road, Springfield, IL 62702.
