Roy Alonzo Day, 68, died Wednesday April 29, 2026 at the home of his nephew in Gillespie.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. on Thursday, May 7, and 9 to 9:45 a.m. on Friday, May 8, at Dauderman Mortuary in Alhambra. Funeral service will begin at 10 a.m. on Friday, May 8, at Dauderman Mortuary with the Rev. Mark Gause officiating. Interment will be at 2:30 p.m. at Murdale Gardens of Memory in Murphysboro with Pastor Aaron Waddington officiating.
Mr. Day was born on Friday, June 21, 1957, in Jerseyville, the son of Amos and Rosella (nee Crabtree) Day. He graduated from Highland High School and was self-employed as a handyman. He also enjoyed riding his bike, watching wrestling and playing slots. He loved joking around with others and did not know a stranger.
Mr. Day was preceded in death by his father, Amos Lee Day; mother, Rosella May (nee Crabtree) McCoig; stepfather, James F. McCoig, Sr.; brother, Freddie Lee Crabtree; brothers-in-law, Jimmie Pocklington and Brian Schreiber; nephew, Timothy Parnell; nieces, Ann Price and LaWanda Mae Crabtree; and great-niece, Kyara Stewart.
Mr. Day is survived by his sisters, JoAnn Cross of Marion, IA, Linda (Rick) Bondy of Carlinville, Vickie Pocklington of Carlinville, Ellie Schreiber of Gillespie and Joyce M. (Bill) Rimmel of Raymond; brother, James F. (Dawn Roberts) McCoig, Jr.; seventeen nieces and nephews; 27 great-nieces and nephews; and six great-great-nieces and nephews.
Memorial contributions may be made to the funeral home, payable to Andrew Bondy, per family wishes for Maedge’s Bar and Grill’s staff.
