Third Time Becoming Less Charming For Lady Redskins

Posted

When the Nokomis volleyball team opened their season with a three-game win over East Alton-Wood River, little did they know that would be a sign of things to come.

One third of the Redskins’ 15 games this season have been decided by a third set, and unfortunately, that hasn’t been a blessing for the red and black. So far, the match with the Oilers is their only three set win, with four straight close losses following the opening victory.

The latest of these three-gamers came on Monday, April 12, when the Redskins hosted Pawnee. After a close 25-21 loss in game one, the Redskins extended their night with an even closer 25-23 victory. In the rubber match, Nokomis tried to keep the momentum, but were unable to hold off the Indians and fell to 4-11 on the year with a 25-13 loss in game three.

The Redskins had another solid defensive showing against the attack, with four players posting nine digs or more. Kristen Stauder would lead that group with 14, while Mia Fesser followed with 12 and Olivia Taylor and Presley Lamb added nine each.

Blocks were also a big part of the Redskin defense, with Audrey Sabol (five) and Skylar Stewart (four) combining for nine on the night.

Sabol and Stewart also contributed on the attack, with four and three kills respectively, while Taylor also had three kills. Fesser and Lamb led the team in assists, with six and four on the night.

Fesser led Nokomis with seven points from the serving line, with Delaney Keiser and Kristen Stauder adding six apiece. Presley Lamb added in five points and matched Stauder and Keiser for the team-lead in aces with two apiece.

The Indians would have their share of success at the serving line too, with Maddy Byers serving up 14 points, half of which came on aces. Sarah Olson also contributed 10 points and five aces, while Jordan Watts had nine points and a team-best eight aces.

After their home match against Morrisonville on Wednesday, the Redskins will close out the season with two more contests on April 15, at Father McGivney, and on April 17, at home against East Alton-Wood River once again.
