Terry L. Shutt, 65, of Morrisonville, died on Friday, May 22, 2026, in his home.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral at 10 a.m. on Thursday, May 28, at Assalley Funeral Home in Morrisonvlle. A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. The service will begin with Masonic Rites, followed by a service officiated by Chaplain Ricky Reid.
Mr. Shutt was born on Oct. 19, 1960, in Bloomington, the son of James C. and Mary Jane (Leben) Shutt. He married Valeri Noller on June 2, 1984, in Springfield. He worked for the Springfield Police Department as a traffic warden, retiring after 36 years of service. He received an accommodation from the Springfield Police Department for entering a burning home to save the lives of two occupants. He was a member of Springfield Masonic Lodge No. 4, A.F. and A.M. and the Springfield Scottish Rite.
He was a man who never stopped learning or creating. He enjoyed building detailed models of military equipment, spending time shooting, talking on his ham radio and crafting leatherwork by hand. Recently, he had taken an interest in learning the art of blacksmithing. One of his greatest joys was mowing on his tractor and spending time outdoors. Above all, he will be remembered for his generous heart and willingness to help anyone in need.
Mr. Shutt is survived by his wife, Valeri Shutt of Morrisonville; children, Roy B. (Melissa) Shutt of Broadwell and Cassandra Drake of Athens; grandchildren, Nevaeh Drake, Geno Drake, Ricky Drake, Max Drake and Lily Shutt; brother, James S. (Cheryl) Shutt of Las Vegas, NV; and aunt, Helen Duncan of Jacksonville.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Sharen Mays.
