Shirley Jo Ann Braye, 89, of Nokomis, died on Saturday, June 4, 2022, at her home.
Funeral services will be held at a later date. Burial will be held at Mt. Zion Cemetery near Nokomis. Hough Funeral Home in Raymond is assisting the family.
Mrs. Braye was born March 31, 1933, in Taylorville, to Harold and Emma (Gleason) Thompson. She married Dallas Braye on July 7, 1951, at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Nokomis, and he survives.
She assisted her husband with farming their family farm. She also worked at Smitty’s Jewelry Store in Taylorville and the bakery in Nokomis.
Mrs. Braye was a member of Mt. Zion Church near Nokomis.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children, Steven (Beth) Braye of Huntsville, AL, and Pam (David) Weitekamp of Nokomis; six grandchildren, Nathan (Jennifer) Braye, Mathew (Tracey) Braye, Alexander Braye, Todd Weitekamp, Amy (Travis) Hough and Krista (Drew) Early; 12 great-grandchildren; brother, Michael (Gloria) Thompson; and two sisters, Nancy Walstad of Provo, UT, and Jackie (Richard) Jenkins of Chicago.
Mrs. Braye was preceded in death by her parents; and two sisters, Beverly Fisher and Carlyn Wanack.
Memorials may be directed to the Nokomis Food Pantry or the Nokomis Fire Department.
