Sheila Marie Macon, 73, of Greenville, died on Wednesday, Oct. 5, 2022, as a result of a motor vehicle accident in Madison County.

Visitation will be held Friday, Oct. 14, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Greenville Free Methodist Church. Funeral services will follow, beginning at 1 p.m. at the church with Assistant Pastor Carrie Hill and the Rev. Theodore Macon, Jr. co-officiating. Interment will be held at Hazel Dell Cemetery in Greenville. Donnell-Wiegand Funeral Home in Greenville is assisting the family.

Mrs. Macon was born April 3, 1949, in Hillsboro, to Frank and Sarah Lucille (Hayes) Claybrook. She married Jackie Macon in 1968. They enjoyed 53 years of marriage until his passing on June 18, 2021.

She grew up in Montgomery County, attended Hillsboro area schools and graduated from Hillsboro High School. She continued her education at Greenville and earned her degree in education, as well as a master’s degree from Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville.

During her career, Mrs. Macon taught school in Coffeen, Hillsboro, Donnellson, Mulberry Grove and most recently in Greenville.

She took care of her disabled husband for many years. She loved working on crossword puzzles, reading and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also loved working in her yard and taking care of her beautiful flowers.

Mrs. Macon is survived by her children, Mark (wife Veronica) Macon and Anthony (wife Debbie) Macon, both of Greenville; nine grandchildren, Chelsea (Francis) Chukwuenye, Mariah Macon, Chloe Macon, Jolie Macon, Tasheka Jackson, Michayla Jones, Antonio Garret and Delisea Frye; two great-grandchildren, December Felton and Shia Chukwuenye; siblings, Billie Greene and Michael Allen (wife Michelle) Claybrook, both of Hillsboro, Mary Alice Lee, Paulette Stark, both of Chicago, and Terry Lee Claybrook of Kentucky; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Ciara Renee Macon; and siblings, Beatrice McCrary, Frank Joseph Claybrook, Larry Dean Claybrook, Patricia Ann Claybrook, Rita Yvonne Claybrook and Teresa Joyce Claybrook.
