Sandra Jean (Chismarick) Fontana, 84, of Litchfield, died on the evening of Saturday, May 30, 2026, at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in O Fallon. No services are planned at this time per the family’s request.
Mrs. Fontana was born September 22, 1941, in Staunton, a daughter of John and Margaret (Whitman) Chismarick. She was one of eleven children. In her lifetime, she was able to raise her three children, earn her GED and graduate from Bryan College as a CNA.
She was a beloved mother and grandmother. She loved horses and dogs and worked as a CNA for nearly 30 years.
Mrs. Fontana is survived by her daughter, Valarie Ann (Marshall) Bliss of Roseville, CA; daughter, Violet Castro of Sacramento, CA; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and siblings, Roberta (Bertie), Eddie, Lily and Maggie.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel R. Fontana; son, Vincent Brian Burritt; father, John Chismarick; mother, Margaret Anne Giller; brothers, Kenneth Chismarick, George Giller, Bobby Giller and Sonny Giller; and sisters, Nancy (Giller) Weller and Ruth Ann (Giller) Vollintine.
