The All-Star National Flat Track Series made it’s stop in Springfield on Sept. 4-7 for the George Mack Memorial, with AMA District 17 holding a race the day before at the Illinois State Fairgrounds.
Appropriately enough, Hillsboro’s Chase Saathoff put in some work during the Labor Day weekend event, scoring ten top three finishes, including five wins, in ten races.
In the District 17 race on Sept. 3, Saathoff would race in the 251-450cc class as well as the 250-Open division. The 14-year-old freshman took second in both classes to set the tone for a successful weekend.
That should help Saathoff in the District 17 point standings. Going into the races, he was third in the 450cc class and second in the open amateur division.
On Sept. 4, Saathoff picked up his first win as he took the top spot in the 450cc Amateur, with a third place finish in the Open Singles Amateur to go along with it. Those results would keep Saathoff ahead of Tyler Raggio and Kody Kopp, who were also in Springfield for the races, in the All-Star series points race in the Open Singles Amateur and 450 Amateur divisions.
Saathoff kept up his winning ways over the next two race days as well. On Sept. 6, he picked up victories in the 251-450cc and 250-Open races and was second in the Pro/Amateur. On the final day of the event, he replicated those results, winning the 251-450cc and 250-Open races again, while finishing in the runner-up spot in the Open Pro/Am.
