Roy Theodore Beaman, Sr., 85, of McHenry, died on Sunday, Dec. 24, 2023, in McHenry, surrounded by his loving family.
A celebration of life visitation will be held on Thursday, Jan. 4, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Justen Funeral Home and Crematory, located at 3700 W. Charles Miller Road in McHenry. A life celebration service will follow at 8 p.m. Interment will be held on Saturday, Jan. 6, at 10 a.m. at the Fairview Cemetery, located at 1457 E. 350 N Road in Nokomis.
Mr. Beaman was born on Oct. 20, 1938, in Morrisonville. His life was marked by devotion to his family, his unwavering work ethic and his love for life's simple pleasures.
He was the beloved patriarch of a family that adored him. He was a cherished husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He married Norma Sue Beaman on Oct. 12, 1958, in Wonder Lake, and they enjoyed 65 years of marriage. Together, they created a legacy of love and commitment that continues through their children and grandchildren.
Mr. Beaman's commitment to his work was as steadfast as his commitment to his family. For over 60 years, he was a proud member of the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 150. His presence was a constant at union events and pickets, and he was well-known for driving the union's Ratmobile. His colleagues respected him for his integrity and his unyielding support for their collective rights.
Those who knew Mr. Beaman will remember him for his selfless nature, his generosity and his loving spirit. He was a man of principle, believing a handshake was as binding as any written contract, a testament to his belief in the value of one's word. His character was an example to all, embodying the true definition of a stand-up guy.
Mr. Beaman found joy in the simple things in life. He was an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinal baseball team and took pleasure in watching the cardinal birds outside his home. His love for talking with neighbors was matched by his passion for RVing and fishing, activities that allowed him to make cherished memories with family and friends. His presence was a comfort and a source of strength, and his guidance was sought by many. His legacy will live on in the stories told, the lessons learned, and the memories cherished by all who were fortunate enough to know him.
Mr. Beaman is survived by his wife; son, Roy Jr. “Ted” (Laura); grandchildren Jay, Harmony (partner Mike), Travis (Tory) and Becca (partner Jacob); great-grandchildren Kaelyb, Maggi, Vance, Cooper and Linkin; siblings Marilyn, Harold (Judy), Robert (Martha), Benjamin (Linda), Marjorie (Dan) and Grace (Johnny); in-laws Leroy, Gene (Judy), David (Kim), Janet and Ron; and many nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel and Nadine; in-laws Silas and Fay; siblings Mary, Hazel, Anita and Larry; and in-laws Rick and Glenda.
Mr. Beaman’s life will be celebrated where his family and friends will gather to honor his memory. He will be laid to rest in a place he loved, surrounded by those who loved him most.
