Robert “BoB” J. Tex, 83, of Taylorville, died peacefully surrounded by family on Sept. 25, 2026.
A private family service will be held. There will be a celebration of life on Oct. 10, at the Taylorville American Legion Post 73 from 1 to 4 p.m. with military rights at 1 p.m.
Mr. Tex was born Jan. 11, 1943, the son of Robert L. and Lavern Tex.
He graduated from Taylorville High School in 1961. He married Ruth Ann Reid Schmidt on August 30, 1969, in Taylorville.
Mr. Tex was a Vietnam veteran. Over the years, he was employed at Hopper Paper Co., Peabody Mine #10 and US Express for ten years on the driving team with his wife. He retired in 2005 and he and his wife spent their winters in Mission, TX, at Chimney Park. He was a member of VFW 4495, American Legion Post 73 and UMWA.
Mr. Tex is survived by his wife, Ruth; son, Jason (wife Denise) of Taylorville; grandchildren, Kyle (wife Mary) of Morrisonville and Jackson (fiancée Layne) of Creve Coeur, MO; great-granddaughter, Raelynn of Morrisonville; sisters, Diane and Doris; brother, Mick; and several nieces and nephews.
He was proceeded in death by his grandparents; parents; siblings, Donna and Jack; nephew, Eric; and son, Doug Schmidt.
