Richard ‘Dick’ Durbin, 92

Richard “Dick” J. Durbin, 92, of Walshville, died at 6:22 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 2, 2024, at Litchfield Health and Rehab Center in Litchfield.

Visitation will be Friday, Feb. 9, from 9 to 11 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church in Litchfield. Funeral Mass will follow beginning at 11 a.m. at the church with Father Dan Willenborg, pastor of Holy Family Catholic Church in Litchfield officiating. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in Litchfield, where military rites will be accorded. Bass Patton Dean Funeral Home in Hillsboro is assisting the family.

Mr. Durbin was born on Oct. 16, 1931, in Irving Township to the late Richard and Louise (Dullenty) Durbin.

A graduate of Litchfield High School, he lived in Litchfield, Walshville, Irving and Butler. Mr. Durbin served with the United States Army from February 1952 to January 1954 with the Engineering Aviation Battalion 866.

He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Litchfield, the Knights of Columbus, VFW in Panama and ATA in Mt. Olive. He loved bowling, visiting with his family and especially playing cards.

Mr. Durbin is survived by three sisters, Betty (husband James) DeWerff of Nokomis, Theresa Saathoff of Hillsboro and Phyllis (husband John) Lively of Farmersville; two sisters-in-law, Mary Ann Durbin and Gladys Durbin; 23 nieces and nephews, 52 great-nieces and great-nephews and 36 great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, John Durbin, Bob Durbin and Paul Durbin; a nephew, Steven DeWerff; a niece, Danielle Durbin; and a brother-in-law, Dan Saathoff.
