Rex Allen Harris, 87, of Mulberry Grove, died on Thursday, Dec. 14, 2023, at Breese Nursing Home, surrounded by his loving family.

Visitation will be held on Monday, Dec. 18, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., at Assalley Funeral Home, located at 118 E. College Ave. in Greenville. Funeral will be held at 12 p.m., following the visitation, with the Rev. Bruce Sasse, officiating. Burial will follow the funeral service at Mulberry Grove Cemetery.

Mr. Harris was born on Dec. 11, 1936, in Vandalia, at the family home, the son of Ray F. and Leona D. (Cameron) Harris. He married Phyllis Kay Wehrle, in Mulberry Grove, on Dec. 6, 1952, and they were married for 67 blessed years. She preceded him in death on Jan. 17, 2020.

Mr. Harris grew up in and lived his life in Mulberry Grove and attended Mulberry Grove schools. He worked and retired as a laborer in construction, was a member of the First Baptist Church in Mulberry Grove, and enjoyed spending time with his family and loved them all dearly.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; daughter, Shelly Goodin; and sisters, Joyce and Shirley Harris.

Mr. Harris is survived by his daughters, Peggy (Lee Roy) Blankenship of Keyesport and Dixie Harris of Vandalia; grandchildren, Mindy, Angie, Dusty, Cray and Elias; great-grandchildren, Colton, Caden, Mady, Jesse Joe, Karley, Jesse James, Brady and Bennett; and Shelly’s companion, Tim Ennen.

Memorials may be given to Bond County Hospice, 1520 S. 4th St., Greenville, IL 62246, in lieu of flowers, plants, and other gifts.
