Rebecca Joan Carraher, 68, of Taylorville, died on Tuesday, March 31, 2026.
A memorial service will take place at 11 a.m. on Monday, April 6, at McClure Funeral Home in Taylorville with Fr. John Burnette officiating. The visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. on Monday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Carraher was born on Nov. 16, 1957, in Taylorville, to Sherrill Jean (Popovich) Umberger, who survives her, and the late Richard Yewell Umberger. She spent her life rooted in the Taylorville community she called home.
On Sept. 1, 2006, she married Mark Carraher, and he survives. Mrs. Carraher took great pride in her family and especially loved spending time with her grandchildren, following their lives closely and supporting them in everything they did.
Mrs. Carraher built a respected career with the Illinois Association of Realtors, where she served as the director of Ethics and Professional Standards. She was known for her professionalism, determination and strong sense of integrity, qualities that defined both her work and her life.
Outside of her career, Mrs. Carraher found joy in the simple things she loved most. She enjoyed gardening, reading and was an avid sports fan. She rarely missed a chance to cheer on the St. Louis Cardinals or Fighting Illini basketball.
Those who knew Mrs. Carraher will remember her as a tough, determined and accomplished woman who was deeply generous with her family. She had a dry sense of humor that could catch one off guard and leave one smiling. Her strength, loyalty and steady presence will be missed by all who knew her.
In addition to her mother and husband, Mrs. Carraher is also survived by her daughter, Amanda Marie (Brent) Keele; cherished grandchildren, Madison Marie Keele and Kannon Lee Keele; stepchildren, Jessica (Chris) Black and Andrew Carraher; sister, Christine Marie (Loren) Compton of Nokomis; brother, Joseph (Ellen) Umberger; and her nieces and nephews, Lane Compton and Morgan (Joe) Milam, along with their families.
