Purple Panthers Learning As They Go

The Litchfield High School boys soccer steam is still a work in progress in the early going of the season as the Purple Panthers lost a trio of games to end the week.

On Thursday, Aug. 26, the Panthers took on Maryville Christian in Maryville. Litchfield would pull ahead early and lead 2-0, but the private school in the Metro-East scored five unanswered goals to beat the Panthers 5-2.

Drake Gasperson, who scored Litchfield's goal in their first game of the season, added two more tallies to his score line. Keenan Logan and Ean Davis earned assist on Gasperson's goals.

On Saturday, the Panthers were in Carlinville for a scorcher on the turf. Playing in back-to-back games, Litchfield fell to Athens 5-0 and Springfield Lutheran 4-1 to fall to 0-4 on the season.

Litchfield has one more game left in pool play in the tournament as they take on the host Cavaliers at 7 p.m. Aug. 31. They will also play on Wednesday, Sept. 1, against Staunton at a yet to be determined time and place (either 5 or 7 p.m. at Carlinville or North Mac).
