Party in the Park will return to downtown Litchfield this weekend, Friday, Sept. 17, and Saturday, Sept. 18. This marks the 40th year for the long-held tradition which is sure to provide fun for all ages.
The carnival will open at 5 p.m. on Friday and 1 p.m. on Saturday.
The party will officially kick off at 4 p.m. on Friday with a welcome from the Litchfield Chamber dignitaries, a singing of the National Anthem by Thomas Taylor and an introduction of the 2021 pageant contestants.
The Taste of Litchfield, Rampage Wrestling, the beer wagon and exhibit booths will also open at 4 p.m. Those that are feeling lucky should head to the library stage for Bingo from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m; proceeds will benefit Litchfield Park District’s Community Dog Park. Carnival rides begin at 5 p.m. on Friday evening, and wristbands may be purchased onsite.
KT Hatch will perform live from 6 to 8 p.m. on the band stage. Hunter Sharp will follow, keeping crowds entertained well into the night, from 8 to 11 p.m.
The party continues on Saturday morning. Runners will need to be up bright and early for the Colors of Cancer Run at 7 a.m; proceeds from the fun run will be donated to the Montgomery County Cancer Association. Packet pickup and same day registration will be open from 7 to 7:45 a.m., and the race begins at 8 a.m., rain or shine. Athletes will need to lace up by 10 a.m. for the 3-on-3 basketball tournament, hosted by the Army National Guard.
Attendees can test their limits at the pancake-eating contest, which will also begin at 10 a.m. Head over to the Carnegie Building Foundation for the cake walk at 11 a.m. The Taste of Litchfield, beer wagon and exhibit booths will all open at noon.
Litchfield VFW’s much anticipated bags tournament will start at noon. Rampage wrestling will also resume at noon on Saturday.
Be sure to head over to the Library Park Stage for the spelling bee at 12:30 p.m. Carnival rides will open at 1, and the all-town pep rally begins at 3 p.m. Bingo players should make sure they are at the Carnegie Building for their chance to win from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m.
The Litchfield Royalty pageants will begin at 5 p.m. at Library Park Stage. This year’s Party in the Park will culminate with a live performance from the Brat Pack Band beginning at 8 p.m. at the Band Stage.
