The Pana girls golf team picked up a win over Lincolnwood-Morrisonville on Tuesday, Sept. 7, in a match at Oak Terrace that also included three golfers from Decatur Eisenhower.
The Panthers’ consistency, only four strokes separated their top four golfers, helped them to shoot a 238 on the day, 12 strokes better than Lincolnwood’s 250.
Through the top three, Lincolnwood was right with Pana as Shelby Hattenbach shot a 59, Kaylee Gerlach added a 60 and Jhia Walker finished with a 61.
The Lancers were without Marisa Webb, though, and the senior might have been able to take some of the pressure off freshman Jenna Matli, who shot a 70 on the extremely difficult course for the fourth scoring round.
Matli’s score was better than Pana’s fifth golfer and was close to two other Eisenhower golfers, Dylan Briscoe and Jenna Wilder, who both shot 69.
The Lincolnwood girls will have another tough test on Thursday, Sept. 9, when they play PORTA, Auburn and Taylorville at Shambolee Golf Course in Petersburg. They also play at Hillsboro at 4 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 10, and head to the Lady Viper Open at Terry Park Golf Course in Palmyra on Sept. 11.
