Norma Joy (Anderson) McCullers, 87, of Ormond Beach, Florida, formerly of Nokomis, died on Friday, Nov. 24, 2023.
There will be a graveside service at Oak Grove Cemetery, in Hillsboro, at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 16.
Mrs. McCullers was born in Nokomis on Jan. 25, 1936, and graduated from Nokomis High School. She earned a bachelor’s degree from Eastern Illinois University where she was a member of Delta Zeta sorority.
She married John McCullers in 1957. They lived in California, Indiana, and Illinois before moving to Florida in 1976 where they joined First United Methodist Church in Ormond Beach. Mrs. McCullers taught physical education in Illinois before becoming a hotel owner in Florida. She volunteered at the local hospital for many years. She enjoyed playing tennis, traveling in their Blue Bird RV, working in the yard, taking walks, watching football and other sports and reading.
Mrs. McCullers is survived by her husband, John; daughters Linda McCullers of San Antonio, TX, and Susan Johnson from Ponte Vedra Beach, FL; grandson Scott (Kirsten) McCullers from Seattle,WA, and granddaughter Kirstie (Matt) Owens from Jacksonville Beach, FL; great-granddaughter Evelyn McCullers and great-grandson Mason Owens; sister-in law LaWanda Anderson; and nieces Diane (John Sweitzer) and Cathy Anderson and nephew David (Melody) Jackson.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John E. (Dutch) and Bernice (Culberson) Anderson; and brothers Dean and Lyle (Bucky) Anderson.
