Myrtle Ann Barto, 94, of Raymond, died on Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2023, at 11:21 p.m. at her home with her family by her side.

Visitation will be held Saturday, Feb. 25, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at A Community of Faith Church, 101 Belle St., in Raymond. Funeral services will follow, beginning at 1 p.m. at the church. Burial will be held at Edgewood Cemetery in Litchfield. Hough Funeral Home in Raymond is assisting the family.

Mrs. Barto was born May 19, 1928, in Hillsboro, to Ray and Sophia (Watson) Erwin. She married John M. Barto on Nov. 10, 1949, and he preceded her in death on Dec. 18, 1995.

She attended A Community of Faith Church in Raymond, where she enjoyed greeting members each Sunday morning.

During her career, Mrs. Barto worked for Sangamo Electric Co. from 1950 to 1975. She then worked for Panhandle Community School as a custodian for 13 years until her retirement in 1991. For many years until 2002, she assisted Hough Funeral Homes with answering phones for the ambulance, fire and police services for Raymond, Farmersville and Morrisonville.

She served her community for 22 years as a member of the Raymond-Harvel Ambulance Service and was a past member of the Harvel Women’s Club.

Mrs. Barto’s favorite pastimes included gardening, making jellies and jams to share with her family and friends and baking. She often used the fruits and vegetables that she grew in her orchard to share with others. She was well-known for her furniture refinishing.

She is survived by her children, John R. Barto of Raymond and Rita (Bob) Spoor of Normal; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; six stepgreat-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; seven stepgreat-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Barto was preceded in death by her parents; daughter-in-law, Marilyn Barto; sisters, Mary White and Betty Wagahoff; and brother, Bob Erwin.
