Mitchell Gets OT Winner For Litchfield


The Litchfield Lady Panthers improved to 6-2 in the South Central Conference with a 4-3 overtime win over Southwestern on Thursday, May 27.

The score was tied at 2-2 after 40 minutes and 3-3 at the end of regulation. Late in the second overtime period, Litchfield would finally get the go-ahead goal when Izzy Ray served up a ball in front of the Southwestern net. Olivia Mitchell would volley home Ray’s cross as the Panthers improved to 8-3 on the season.

The win was Litchfield’s sixth in seven games, with the only loss coming against conference champion Roxana in that span.

The Panthers will start their postseason on Friday, June 4, at 5 p.m. at home against the winner of Tuesday’s game between Staunton and Gillespie.

On the other side of the bracket, Hillsboro will take on the winner of Tuesday's game between Carlinville and Southwestern.
