Minnie I. Ashbrook, 92

Minnie Ivaloue Ashbrook, 92, of Taylorville, died peacefully at her home on Monday, Sept. 21, 2026, at 11:43 p.m., surrounded by her family.

A private family service will be held and burial will take place at Oak Hill Cemetery in Taylorville. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Mrs. Ashbrook was born on Nov. 9, 1933, in Taylorville, the oldest daughter and child of Bennie and Juanita (Lamb) Hill. She was a 1951 graduate of Taylorville High School and married James William Ashbrook on February 19, 1956, in Buckeye United Methodist Church in rural Owaneco.

She was employed from a young age as a grocery cashier at Piggly Wiggly, Eisner and A and P stores. She was a fire and  auto rating department supervisor for Liberty Mutual Insurance Co., in Taylorville, Logan Insurance Agency, in Mattoon, and Smith Insurance Agency, in Manteno. She was the secretary to the Superintendent of Manteno Schools until 1974. After moving to Morrisonville, she was a bus driver for Morrisonville Schools until her retirement in 1993.  She was also a licensed real estate agent. 

Mrs. Ashbrook was a member of the Taylorville First United Methodist Church. She served as a Cub Scout and Boy Scout Den Leader and on the Illinois Council of Aging. She was a member of the Morrisonville American Legion Auxiliary, Ansar Shrine Ansarettes and local Red Hatters.  After retirement, she enjoyed traveling extensively with family and friends.

Mrs. Ashbrook is survived by her son, Mark Williams (wife Maria) Ashbrook of Morrisonville; daughters, Fawn Jamiece Harris of Indianapolis, IN, and Janeen Ivaloue Huppert of Taylorville; grandchildren, Jim (wife Kayla) Ashbrook, Ashley Ashbrook, Amber and Brandy Huppert, Mitchele (wife Alyssa) Harris, and Dr. Colin G. Harris; step-grandson, John (wife Shannon) Boerckel; great-grandchildren, Noah James and Sophia Grace Harris; step-great-grandchildren, John Theodore “JT” and Cody Boerckel; sister, Bennita (husband Edward) Brower; brother, Ben (wife Lynda) Hill; several nieces and nephews; great-nieces and nephews; and great-great-nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James; parents, Bennie and Juanita Hill; sisters, Laoka Foster, Louada Richter and Clarrenna Bland; nephew, William Buckler; and niece, Leila Foster. 

Memorials may be made to Christian County Senior Citizens, Christian County 4H or the Illinois State Police Heritage Foundation.
