Melvin Keith Cox, 90, of White Hall, died on Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2022, at Jacksonville Memorial Hospital.

Visitation will be held Saturday, Jan. 8, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in White Hall. Funeral services will follow, beginning at 12 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be held at White Hall Cemetery.

Mr. Cox was born Feb. 15, 1931, in Alton, to Ira and Stella (Newingham) Cox. He married Dorothy Jackson on Sept. 1, 1948, in Jerseyville, and she preceded him in death on March 27, 2020.

During his career, he worked at the Alsey Brick Plant, then served as a janitor for the White Hall Elementary School for many years.

Mr. Cox enjoyed yard sales, collecting clocks, fishing, mowing his yard and his dog.

He is survived by two sons, Melvin Leroy (Donna) Cox of White Hall and Duane (Karen) Cox of Coffeen; daughter, Judy Harr of Hardin; ten grandchildren, Kim (Rob) Parmenter, Nikki (Jimmy) Buchannan, Jamey (Gina) Hoots, Brandi Bowman, Heaven Wiser, Amanda (J.R.) Crain, D.J. (Deanna) Cox, Cheyenne Cox, Dakota Cox and Austin Cox; 18 great-grandchildren; 20 great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ivy VanMeter of White Hall and Mary Antle of Jacksonville; and a brother, Junior (Dorothy) Cox of White Hall.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Cox was preceded in death by his parents; son, David Cox; two brothers, Marvin and Frankie Cox; and four sisters, Wanda Gentry, Elma Adams, Betty Murphy and Barbara McWhorters.
