Melvin Charles McKinney, 74, died on Friday, June 19, 2026, at his home in Vandalia, surrounded by family.
Visitation will be held on Friday, June 26, from 4 to 6 p.m., at Miller Funeral Home in Vandalia. Funeral services will follow at 6 p.m. at the funeral home, officiated by Pastor Joe Lawson. A burial will be held at a later date. Miller Funeral Home in Vandalia is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. McKinney was born on Dec. 20, 1951, the son of Marvin McKinney and Irene (Gaffner) McKinney in Fayette County. He married Brenda Sue Lape on Oct. 1, 1977, in Vandalia, and she preceded him in death on Dec. 3, 2022. He was a member of the First Church of God in Vandalia. He loved spending time outdoors and especially enjoyed fishing, golfing, duck hunting and sitting out on his porch. He loved his family and enjoyed every minute he got to spend with them.
Mr. McKinney is survived by his son, Dustin (Tammy) McKinney of Brownstown; grandchildren, Danielle Reavis, Haley Cannon, Katlyn (Liam) Dugan, Dawson McKinney and Eric McKinney; great-grandchildren, Zaiden, Briella, Braelyn, Brooklyn, Briar, Layla and Laiken; and sister, Vickie McKinney of Vandalia.
He is preceded in death by his parents and wife, Brenda McKinney.
Memorial donations are left to the donor’s choice.
