Melvin A. Varner, 78, of Hillsboro, died Sunday, Dec. 26, 2021, at Hillsboro Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center.

The funeral ceremony will be Friday, Jan. 7, at 10 a.m., at the Perfetti-Assalley Funeral Home in Sorento. The Rev. Roy Eller will officiate. Interment will follow at Sunnyside Cemetery in Sorento.

Mr. Varner was born Nov. 26, 1943, in Hillsboro, the son of Alvin Andrew and Lora (Ingles) Varner. He lived north of Sorento on the Varner farm with his parents and helped his father farm. Later he moved to Litchfield and he worked for the garage in Litchfield.

He is survived by his nieces and nephews, Valena (husband William) Bone, of Smithboro, Frank (wife Rochelle) Varner, of Highland, Annette (husband Chris) Poteet, of Midlothian, TX, Clinton Varner, of IN, and Rhonda (husband Brian) Gregory, of Hendersonville, TN; several great-nieces and great-nephews; and special friend, Phyllis Hammond, of Litchfield.

Mr. Varner was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Ronald Lee Varner.
