Melissa S. Medders, 53, of Gillespie, died at 6:43 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 4, 2021, at Community Memorial Hospital in Staunton.
Funeral services were held on Sunday, Nov. 7, at Kravanya Funeral Home in Gillespie. Kravanya Funeral Home in Gillespie assisted the family with arrangements.
Ms. Medders was born on Aug. 13, 1968, in Litchfield, to Willard and Carole Scheller. She was a graduate of Gillespie High School, St. John’s School of Nursing in Springfield and Southern Illinois University Edwardsville where she received a bachelors degree in nursing. Ms. Medders was a registered nurse in the home health industry. She loved her job, patients, football, Christmas and animals. Her son meant the world to her.
Ms. Medders is survived by her parents; son, Blake (fiancée Mikayla Fritz) Medders of Benld; sister, Kelly Favre of Benld; nieces and nephews, April Balestri, Crystal Linton, Chris Schuerman, Vanessa Davidson, Maggie and Mollie Ayers; and several aunts, cousins, great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Joe Ayers; nephew, Charles Schuerman; grandparents, Joe and Eleanor Garella, and Paul and Lucille Scheller; and uncle, Dick Scheller.
