Melba Frances Watson, 88, of Litchfield, died on Sunday, April 23, 2023, at 7:45 p.m. at HSHS St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.

Visitation will be held Thursday, April 27, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Plummer Funeral Home in Litchfield. Funeral services will follow, beginning at 12 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Randy Sands of Hillsboro Free Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be held at Kirkland Cemetery in Sorento.

Mrs. Watson was born Aug. 16, 1934, in rural Irving, to George Washington and Helen Marie (Kluthe) Taylor. She married Wesley Leroy Loew in 1953, and he preceded her in death on 1968. She then married Wayne Watson, and they later divorced.

She graduated from Morrisonville High School with the class of 1952. During her career, she was employed by International Filter in Litchfield as a secretary and bookkeeper for several years.

Mrs. Watson enjoyed St. Louis Cardinals baseball, jigsaw puzzles, crocheting, quilting, gardening and attending senior citizen dances.

She is survived by her son, Bradley (Rosalie) Loew of Irving; son-in-law, Michael A. Huber of Pleasant Plains; two daughters, Karen Chesney of Butler and Marilyn (Lee) Thomas of Charleston; sister, Sylvia Fay Prior of Irving; six grandchildren, Jason (Amy) Huber, Andrew (Amy) Huber, Eric (Hannah) Chesney, Tara Chesney, Daniel Loew and Wesley Loew; four stepgrandchildren, Phillip (Tonya) Thomas, Tammy (Bill) Pennington, Darrel (Stephanie) Thomas and Shelly Reiss; eight great-grandchildren, Mathew Loew, Vivian Loew, Peyton Chesney, Paxton Chesney, William Huber, Ina Huber, Ryan Sharpe and Alayna Huber; and 11 stepgreat-grandchildren.

In addition to her first husband, Mrs. Watson was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Joyce Ann Huber; son-in-law, Bernard Chesney; and granddaughter, Jennifer Huber.
