Mary Jane (Vandever) Hoff, 96, of Hillsboro, died on Sunday, Feb. 19, 2023, at 2:45 p.m. at Hillsboro Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

A memorial service will be conducted Thursday, March 2, beginning at 11 a.m. at Calvary Baptist Church in Hillsboro with the Rev. Michael Plummer, pastor of Calvary Baptist Church in Hillsboro, and the Rev. Kevin Simberger co-officiating. Burial will follow at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, MO. Bass Patton Dean Funeral Home in Hillsboro is assisting the family.

Mrs. Hoff was born Sept. 16, 1926, in Nokomis, to Lester K. and Nora (Bolding) Vandever. She married Harry “Bud” Hoff on Nov. 28, 1946, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Hillsboro, and he preceded her in death on Oct. 1, 2013.

She graduated from Hillsboro High School and obtained her teaching degree.

Mrs. Hoff began her married life as a farm wife in Fillmore. Over the years, she worked out of the home, in office jobs, retail, and her favorite, teaching.

She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Hillsboro. She was an avid church goer and taught Sunday school. She greatly enjoyed golf, Bridge, playing music, knitting, reading and writing. Her published book of poetry, Bloom Where You Are Planted, is available on Amazon.

During her lifetime, Mrs. Hoff resided in Hillsboro, McAllen, TX, and Calverton, VA.

She is survived by two sons, Bill (Beverly) Hoff of Florissant, MO, and Jim (Donna) Hoff of Rochester; grandchildren, Heather Parr, Melissa (Michael) Marty, Elaine (Ron) Smith, Amanda Hoff, Monica Hoff and Jessye Hoff; great-grandchildren, David Cooper, Rachel Cooper, Leah Cooper, Alexa Marty, Olivia Marty, Tyler Smith, Devan Smith, Trenton Hobson and Joshua Hoff; three great-great-grandchildren, Rowan, Iris Rose and Emory Rose; niece, Jody Dunn; great-nices and great-nephews, Jeff Dunn, Jamee (Dwayne) Francisco and Jennifer Dunn; and a number of fur babies.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Hoff was preceded in death by her parents; children, Hope Hoff, Hannah (Hoff) Parr and Thomas H. “Hank” Hoff; grandson, Justin Hoff in 2015; and brothers, Lester J. “Duck” Vandever, Jr. and Ralph Vandever.
